Most business owners have no idea what their company is worth.
They know what they earn. They know what they built.
But they don’t know what a buyer would pay for it — right now.
Let’s fix that.
Why Valuation Matters (Even If You’re Not Selling Yet)
Knowing your business’s value can change everything:
You make smarter decisions
You prepare for future exits
You negotiate better with partners or investors
You get peace of mind
And if you’re thinking of selling within the next 2 years, it’s essential to start the valuation process now.

How Buyers Typically Value a Business
Business buyers look at three main things:
1. Cash Flow (SDE or EBITDA)
This is what the business actually puts in the owner’s pocket.
More cash flow = higher value.
2. Industry Multiples
Each industry has a range — for example, a service business may sell for 2–3x SDE, while SaaS could sell for 5–7x.
3. Risk & Transferability
Can the business survive without you?
Is it well-documented? Are the customers loyal?
Low-risk, well-documented businesses always sell for more.
A Quick Example:
Let’s say your business earns:
$500,000 in revenue
$150,000 in seller’s discretionary earnings (SDE)
And it’s in a solid industry with low owner involvement.
You could potentially sell it for:
2.5x SDE = $375,000
But if it’s highly automated, has recurring revenue, or comes with assets (like trucks, equipment, or staff), it might sell for even more.
